Avionics Engineer
Portal Space Systems
4+ years industry experience, M.S. in Electrical Engineering or related field, or equivalent experience Experience with spacecraft avionics, power systems, or embedded control hardware Prior ownership of power management hardware or RF and antenna subsystems at the board or unit level Experience interfacing hardware with embedded software or firmware Exposure to environmental testing, EMI/EMC considerations, or flight qualification testing Demonstrated ability to independently own a well-scoped hardware project from design through delivery
Responsibilities
- Own the design, development, and test of discrete avionics hardware and assemblies
- Develop schematics, PCB layouts, and supporting documentation for targeted hardware
- Bring up hardware from first power-on through functional and environmental testing
- Debug and resolve issues at the board and subsystem level
- Collaborate with mechanical, thermal, and software engineers to ensure clean interfaces and successful integration
- Support spacecraft-level integration, test, and troubleshooting activities
- Perform design reviews, test planning, and hardware readiness assessments
Basic Qualifications
- 2+ years of experience designing, building, and testing electrical hardware for embedded, aerospace, robotics, automotive, medical, or other high-reliability systems
- Experience developing schematics and PCB layouts using modern ECAD tools (Altium or similar)
- Hands-on experience bringing up and debugging hardware in the lab
- Proven ability to work in a fast-paced, highly collaborative environment
